Who We Are

The National Association of Working Seniors (NAWS™ ) is a California C Corporation membership organization with an affiliated non-profit foundation (The Aging Connection™) dedicated to addressing the needs and interests of working people age 50 and older. NAWSwas founded in 2004 by a team of California senior business entrepreneurs. Today, NAWS ™ actively represents working seniors in a multitude of issues. About 66% of our members are working seniors, either full or part-time, while the others are retired but considering reentering the work force. Nearly a third of our members are under the age of 60; those age 60 - 74 comprise the majority, with approximately a quarter 75 and older.

What We Do

Through information and education, advocacy and service, we seek to enhance the quality of life for all senior workers by promoting independence, dignity and purpose. American demographics indicate that a large segment of our population is between the of ages 50 to 75 and this segment will continue to grow as the baby boomers enter this age group. It is clear that the social security system will not provide adequate retirement income and that many in our target age group will want to continue working in their current occupation or reenter the work force with a new career.  The continuation of seniors in the work force will become the best way to address the projected worker shortage beginning in 2010.  This group as a whole has little political voice and few options in terms of assistance as they evaluate their options with respect to the work force. The National Association of Working Seniors has been created to meet this need.

Vision

Regardless of what our members do, they find in NAWS the resources and strength to help them make their own choices, reach their goals and dreams, and make the most of their careers after 50. Our vision is to excel as a dynamic presence in every community by shaping and enriching the experiences of our working senior members and of the society in which they live..

To bring that vision to life, we focus our efforts and resources in five key areas:

  1. Career – assisting our members to understand their own strengths and interests and to find career options that meet their needs as well as helping employers understand the benefits of hiring or retaining senior workers.
  2. Financial – assisting our members to make financial choices that increase their independence and safeguard their assets
  3. Family – assisting our members who are part of the sandwich generation in understanding options for care of their grandparents, parents and children.
  4. Health – assisting our members in understanding and making choices that improve and maintain their physical, mental and emotional health.
  5. Legislative – assisting our members by advocacy at the state and federal level and keeping them informed on issues that impact their life as working seniors.
